What is a Heads Up Race?
A heads up race is also known as an "even tree" race. In this type of race both cars start at the same time and the first car to the finish line wins.

What is a Bracket Race?
A bracket race is designed so that two unevenly matched cars can race each other fairly. Each driver chooses a "dial-in time" that they forcast their 1/4 mile elapsed time to be. The slower car get's a head start based in the 2 cars dial in times. If you go faster than your dial in time you automatically loose. The first person to the finish line wins. The trick here is to choose a dail in time that you can come vary close to without going under (faster).

We found a few sites that explain bracket racing very well.
How Do you use NOS (Nitrous Oxide)?
All of the NOS kits we have in the game are electronic. This means that it uses NOS automatically.

Why did I loose when I had the better E.T.?
In order to understand why you lost, you have to understand what the measurements mean. In a real drag race there are several light beams at the starting line and the finish line. The staging lights come on as you break the beams close to the starting line. All measurement are based on when you cross these beams.

Your Reaction Time (R/T) is a measurement of how fast you reacted to the light. It is a measurement of how long it took from when the light turned green to when you crossed the starting line. A perfect reaction time is .500 because the human body and car combo take at least 1/2 of a second to react to the light. Therefore, anything less than 1/2 a second is a considered a false start.

Your Elapsed Time is a measurement of how long it took for you to cross the starting line to the finish line. Your reaction time makes no difference in the ET. You could sit with the light green for 5 minutes and still pull a 16 second run (or whatever your car usually runs). This is why you can have a better ET and still loose a heads up race. Imagine you and your opponent were sitting at the light, he reacted faster than you did but did not false start. You in-a-sense, gave him a head start. He crosses the finish line first because of this and wins the race.

The way that you calculate how long it took from when the light turned green until you crossed the finish line is you add the reaction time to the elapsed time. This is the number that desides who won the heads up race. To calulate who won a bracket race you have to understand that the person with the higher dial-in gets a head start equal to the difference in the 2 Dial-in times.
